:If you're hiring him for API job like I do. Communication is the most important. You need to prepare documentation (simple one will do), and some mapping to the UI. Like this, he can deliver your work very fast and you get what you want. Trust me, he knows what to do with coding, but helping him understand the context he's about to code would speed things up.
